A diet and exercise plan is an excellent way for you to lose the extra weight. Diet and exercise go hand in hand because the idea is to make your body burn calories at a faster rate than you consume them. When you are on a diet, you deprive your body of the calories it uses for energy and forces it to use the stores of fat to get the fuel for the energy it needs. Exercise, even at a moderate pace, forces the body to burn up more calories because it raises the body’s metabolism. Exercise also helps to firm up the flabby muscles turning them into fat burning machines because muscles continue to burn calories even after you are finished with the exercise routine.

You don’t need to join any health clubs or diet programs because you can make up your own plan for diet and exercise. If you only cut down on the amount of food you eat and incorporate exercise into your schedule for only 20 minutes three times a week, you will notice a change in your weight within a short time. Most dieters come up with their own diet plans that include their favorite foods. You should choose healthy foods when you are on a diet and try to eat more fruits and vegetables.

Fruits and vegetables are diet foods because they contain negative calories. This means that they are made up of complex materials and the body has to work hard to digest them. The body will burn more calories to break down these foods and this is why they are recommended as part of any diet plan. In addition to exercise, you need to drink at least 6 glasses of water a day to flush the burned out calories out of the body. Even if you are not on a diet, water is an essential element for the body.

You do need to plan to include exercise in your daily routine if you are not used to exercising on a regular basis. A piece of fitness equipment that provides you aerobic exercise is an excellent way to include exercise in your diet plan because you can have the equipment at home and use it whenever you want. Many of these machines have a calorie counter so you know how many calories you burn in each exercise session. This is really effective if you are on a calorie-counting diet. A heart rate monitor also lets you exercise at the optimal level to give you a great cardio workout to compliment your diet.
