Vegetarian Diet Plan – Cut Out the Fat
A vegetarian diet plan is meat-free, but this does not mean it is fat free. Most vegetarians eat a lot of fat because foods such as eggs, cream, butter, whole milk products and cheese contain many unnecessary calories that leads to weight gain. Some vegetarian proteins, such as nuts and seeds, contain a lot of fat and are not conducive to a diet plan. Some simple tips for following a vegetarian diet are:
- Use fat free milk on a diet. If you prefer to drink soy milk, you need to have one that is both fortified and fat free so that your body will get the essential nutrients it needs as you diet.
- Your diet plan should include low fat cheeses and you should not eat cheese with more than 5 g of fat per ounce of cheese.
- Legumes, tofu and tempeh should be the main source of protein when you are on a vegetarian diet. They are not only low in fat, but they also add fibre to your diet.
- As with all other diets, you should choose fresh fruits and vegetables as your snacks. You should limit the snacks in your diet that contain a lot of sugar,
- If you regularly use mayonnaise, butter or margarine to add flavor to your food, when you are on a diet, you can change to flavoured vinegar or lemon juice to give you the favours you need.
- Instead of frying food, a diet works better is you grill or bake your food. You don’t have to use any oils or fats to cook the food and so are restricting them in your diet.
- Eat only when you are hungry and be creative with low fat vegetarian recipes.
You do need to exercise and drink plenty of water, even on a vegetarian diet, if you want your diet to be successful. You just have to be cognizant of the amount of fats and sugars in your vegetarian diet as you plan to lose weight.
