Gastric Bypass Sugery
Gastric bypass sugery has been in the news a lot lately. Many articles and news sources tend to either describe the gastric bypass procedure as a solution to obesity or as a risky surgery that carries many potential health risks. Many celebrities have come forward to speak about their own stomach stapling experiences, and this, along with increasing concerns over the nation’s obesity rates, has prompted many to discuss weight loss, diet, and gastric bypass procedures very openly.
There are several types of gastric bypass procedures, including the Open Roux en Y stomach stapling surgery, the Distal Gastric Bypass, the Biliopancreatic Diversion (BPG) stomach stapling surgery, the BilioPancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch, the Laparoscopic Roux_en_Y, and the Fobi Pouch.
At its simplest, the stomach stapling surgery known as gastric bypass does two things. First, it reduces the size of the stomach using surgical staples. Secondly, it reattaches the smaller stomach to the intestine in a different way. Because of the smaller stomach, those who suffer from obesity, can, after the surgery, experience weight loss because they feel full much faster. Secondly, because of the way the stomach is reattached to the intestine, food is actually absorbed by the body differently, which further helps dieters with weight loss. Those who have had a gastric bypass procedure will still need to diet and exercise in order to lose weight, but most dieters find this much easier to do following obesity surgery.
