Avoid a Complication of Gastric Bypass Surgery
A complication of gastric bypass surgery can be a terrible thing. A
percentage of people who turn to obesity surgery each year find
themselves in poorer health after the surgery, thanks to complications such as
hair loss, vitamin deficiency, psychological problems, dumping syndrome,
extreme fatigue, and more serious hazards such as the risks of death or
infection. There are a number of ways to either reduce the chances of
these hazards or to cope with them. One excellent way to prevent undue
complications after obesity surgery is to carefully research ahead of
time, so that you know the early symptoms of common complications and
know exactly what to expect from gastric bypass surgery. During
research, you should also be sure to find the best-qualified and most
experienced bariatric surgeon you can, as a good doctor can often deal more
effectively with the risks and complications of bariatric surgery than a
novice. Once you have had gastric bypass surgery, be sure that you
follow the doctor’s directions you are given to the smallest detail and ask
if you have any questions.
A number of bariatric surgery complications have simple solutions.
Hair loss and vitamin deficiencies, for example, can often be helped by a
simple visit to your doctor or surgeon, who may prescribe a supplement
or a healthier diet. A therapist or support group can often help with
the psychological problems - including body image problems and feelings
of fear - that may occur after bariatric surgery. Dumping syndrome -
which refers to the dizziness, cramps, and diarrhea patients feel when
eating sugar after gastric bypass surgery - and fatigue can both be
treated with dietary changes. Eating high-nutrient foods in small portions
and all but eliminating fatty, sugary, and processed foods can go a
long way towards reducing these risks of gastric bypass surgery.
