What You Need to Know Right Now about the Scariest Obesity Complication: Gastric Bypass Surgery Death

Gastric bypass surgery death is one of the most frightening complications arising from obesity

surgery. It is a scary thought that one may die while trying achieve weight loss goals. The

mortality rate for gastric bypass surgery has been variously given as 1 in 200 or 1 in 350, depending

on the study being quoted. Compare this, however, to the fact that obesity is responsible for

approximately 300,000 excess deaths annually in the U.S. alone. Obesity simply carries a higher

mortality rate.

Many surgeries carry some risk of complications, including death, and gastric bypass surgery is no

exception. The mortality rate can be affected somewhat, though. If you are going to have obesity

surgery, you can greatly reduce your risks of complications - including the risk of death, by

choosing a very experienced clinic and a surgeon who has performed many gastric bypass procedures in

the past. This will not affect the mortality rate of the surgery, but it will give you a greater

chance of avoiding serious complications. This is because the greatest causes of death with obesity

surgery include after-surgery infections and anesthesia problems. If you choose an experienced

surgeon and a clinic who is equipped to handle bariatric patients, you have a better chance of being

in contact with health care professionals who are experienced in emergencies and more likely to

provide the care you need. You will not be able to predict or stop respiratory or heart problems -

which also cause death among a small number of patients who have had gastric bypass surgery. On the

other hand, experienced professionals at a good clinic may be more experienced in dealing with these

complications successfully and so may prevent death in patients.
